Future residents joined local dignitaries, Club representatives and project partners to celebrate the official turning of the soil for Siquilla, Campbelltown’s new feel-good retirement community.
Campbelltown Catholic Club has marked an important milestone in the delivery of Siquilla Retirement Residences, with an official turning of the soil ceremony held onsite on Thursday 30 April.
The landmark occasion brought together future Siquilla residents, local dignitaries, Club directors, invited guests and project partners to celebrate the beginning of construction on the $120 million development, located within the Club’s precinct.
More than a construction milestone, the event reflected the community already forming around Siquilla. Future residents attended wearing their special orange high-vis ‘Siquilla Resident’ vests, with many bringing their own shovels and garden spades to take part in the occasion.
The ceremony began with a Traditional Smoking Ceremony by Uncle John, followed by a Welcome to Country on Dharawal land by Elder Aunty Glenda, recognising the significance of the land and marking the beginning of a new chapter for the site.
The official turning of the soil was conducted by The Hon. Anoulack Chanthivong MP, in his capacity as both Minister and Member for Macquarie Fields, together with Campbelltown Mayor Cr Darcy Lound, Campbelltown Catholic Club representatives and Taylor Construction Group.
For Campbelltown Catholic Club, Siquilla represents a major investment in the future of Macarthur and a continuation of the Club’s long-standing commitment to creating facilities, experiences and spaces that support the community.
Campbelltown Catholic Club Chairman David McDonald said Siquilla was the largest project the Club has ever undertaken.
“We’re very excited for this next stage. It is by far the largest project the Club has ever undertaken, and we know that Siquilla will enhance this amazing precinct,” Mr McDonald said.
Siquilla Retirement Residences will feature 92 apartments, extensive resident amenities, an eight-storey apartment building and three levels of basement parking. The heritage-listed Emily Cottage will also be retained, restored and repurposed as part of the development, preserving an important piece of the site’s history while creating a contemporary retirement living community for the future.
With more than half of the apartments already secured, the strong early interest reflects demand for high-quality retirement living that allows locals to remain connected to the area they know and love.
Construction is due for completion in early 2028.
