Youth Solutions Clubs and Community Awards

Here’s a dose of good news in the middle of a lockdown…

Campbelltown Catholic Club has won a prestigious statewide award for its support of our local young people.

We won the ‘Education’ category at this year’s ClubsNSW Clubs & Community Awards for our decade-long support of Macarthur’s Youth Solutions.

“The awards night left me feeling in awe,” said Youth Solutions CEO Geraldine Dean, who joined Club staff and directors at the glittering Sydney ceremony just before the Covid lockdown.

“I felt really lucky to hear the stories of grit, decency, community, selflessness and innovation [among other nominees],’ she said. “Our service was in esteemed company!”

Geraldine was invited on stage to celebrate as a true partner.

Safer Celebrations is a longtime joint project that acknowledges young people should be able to celebrate…but safely and wisely, without any disastrous outcomes for themselves, friends or family.

As celebrations peak and drinks flow, the Catholic Club has linked up with Youth Solutions each summer to deliver a fresh campaign – everything from catchy slogans and graphic designs to school resource packs. Also practical steps, such as providing free soft drinks to club patrons who sign up as a sober designated driver.

The joint project has gone from strength to strength, and you might remember the changing themes and radio ads:

2009/10: Don’t Be (A) Random
2010/11: Safer Summer
2011/12: Who Carries the Responsibility?
2012/13: Celebrate Safe. No Regrets
2013/14: What’s the Cost to You?
2014/15: Keep it in Check
2015/16: Take it Easy
2016/17: Celebrate Safe and Well
2017/18: Party Safe. Home Safe.
2018/19: What about tomorrow? Celebrate Safely
2019/20: #MatesKeepItSafe

Catholic Club CEO Michael Lavorato said, as a family club, safe partying practices were a top priority.

“Our local, well-established and respected youth drug and alcohol prevention and health promotion charity, Youth Solutions, holds these very goals at the core of its operations,” he said.

“Working together has been a natural fit.”

Geraldine Dean and the Youth Solutions team said they were looking forward to an ongoing partnership for years to come.
